Description
Jones Family Cemetery, is located in Shiloh Basin and is a part of Deer Island. It is located just across the road from the old Shiloh Basin school. Click here for "Find A Grave" information on the Jones Family Cemetery (that is, as of December 18, 2017, uncorrectly named the Shiloh Basin Cemetery).
Welter Family Cemetery, along the old Columbia River Highway near the former Trojan Nuclear Power Plant. Click here for "Find A Grave" information on the Welter Family Cemetery.
Prescott Cemetery, along the old Columbia River Highway near Prescott. There is little information on this cemetery. Click here for "Find A Grave."
Gilbreath-Moeck Grave, also known as the Stennick Farm Grave. It is located on private property. According to the Columbia County, Oregon Cemetery Records by Judith Whipple and Betty Mayfield, there are actually 30 graves in this area. However, only two markers remain. Click here for "Find A Grave" for additional information.
The Dibblee House is located along Hwy 30. According to the Oregon Burial Site Guide, John and Sarah (Blanchard) Diblee purchased what is now known as the Diblee house in 1869. Their 5 year old son, Merrill, died in 1873. In 1875 Sarah's 20 year old brother, Merrill, who was visiting went to the local bar and was stabbed in a brawl. He died two days later. Both of the graves are located under the apple tree in the back yard. They are unmarked. Please be mindful that this is private property. Information from "Find A Grave," Click here.
William Riley Strong, Rainier's first schoolmaster, died in 1858 and was reportedly buried at what is now the intersection of W B St. (HWY 30) and W 5th St. Click here for "Find A Grave" information on William Riley Strong.
Blanchard's Cemetery or Potters Field is located along Fern Hill road about 300 feet beyond the turn off for Riverview Dr. as you drive out of town on the right (river side). Please be mindful that this is private property. Click here for a story written by Eleanor H. Abraham on the discovery of this cemetery in October 1963.
An ancient Indian Burial Ground was said to have existed south of what was the Rainier Review office (on E A St. and somewhere between E 3rd St and E 4th St.). There was animosity towards the settlers when they first arrived in Rainier and began to disturb the site. A story was told that one Indian committed suicide when he couldn't keep his promise to his ancestors to always protect the burial ground from desecration. This information still needs to be substantiated.
Mountain View Cemetery shown on "Find A Grave" list graves for the Bitte, Mauris, Romer and Schmidt families. The cemetery was private on property owned by the Mauris family in the Fern Hill area near Rainier, Oregon. Exact location not yet known. Click here for "Find A Grave" page for the Mountain View Cemetery.
Wilark Pioneer Cemetery, located at Trenholm, Columbia County, Oregon (centered between Goble, St. Helens and Vernonia Oregon). This cemetery was originally known as the St. Joseph Polish Catholic Cemetery. According to the Columbia County Cemetery Records by Judith Whipple and Betty Mayfield, the cemetery was associated with a church that was also the local school. The church itself burned in a fire Aug 04, 1899 and was never rebuilt (information and photo from Find A Grave). Click here for "Find A Grave" page for the Wilark Pioneer Cemetery.
