Eleanor Abraham's article:
PROGRESS REPORT GIVEN ON CHURCH SANCTUARY
Rainier (A) - "Enthusiasm is catching," the Rev. E. N. Kowalko said in a construction progress report on the new 7,500-square-foot Church of God started here last fall. Estimated finished valuation is $60,000. Volunteer help and donated funds account for most of the building. Concrete work was done during the cold months, and more results are beginning to show since warmer weather arrived. The congregation hopes to complete the structure within a year and have it paid for within 10 years. More than $20,000 toward this is pledged over a three-year period. Young people of the church pledged $1,000 and have already contributed $300 of it. The 34 by 58-foot sanctuary will seat 200. A side room will be used for chapel services and weddings, with a choir room adjoining. Besides a general office building, pastor's office and nursey, there will be 16 classrooms plus a youth activity room with fireplace and kitchen. The basement will house a large fellowship hall and large kitchen. Rustic vertical siding will be used on the outside, with a roof of locally made hand split shakes.
